President Candidates

Written by: Soumya Komar
Alfred State College welcomed Fall 2021 with exuberance, nervous anticipation, and a booming Week of Welcome. While everyone was busy and excited for the arrival of so many fresh faces on the campus, as well as our returning students, the student leaders, faculty, and administration searched for our institution's new president.

The commendable effort put in by our executive administration and search committee resulted in a pool of six highly talented candidates. The presidential candidates that arrived on campus the past month were - Dr. Christopher Galligan, Dr. Timothy Downs, Dr. Stuart Blacklaw, Dr. Larry Rice, Dr. Steven Mauro, Dr. Junius Gonzales.

Numerous breakfast meetings, presidential forums on both the campuses of Alfred and Wellsville provided the candidates a platform to have honest and impactful conversations with students, faculty, and staff. Repetitive questions were posed tall of the candidates regarding previous leadership positions and experiences, expertise with engaging and supporting several departments, and how our clubs, organizations, Greek life, and athletics can be promoted. Most of the answers highlighted the candidates' visions for increasing and fostering student excellence in order to increase direct connectivity and support for students to achieve maximum motivation.

Their public remarks highlighted how all candidates were honored and recognized at various higher education institutions. In the end, we had a wonderful and inspiring time hosting all the above presidential candidates in our institution. Now we need to cross our fingers and wait for the next president of our college to be selected to write the next chapter for Alfred State
