As the leaves start to change and days shorten, so to is the list of activities that we can participate in. In looking for new events and happenings around the Alfred Campuses, I have recently discovered the Culinary School, located on the Wellsville Campus. There are regularly held events there at least once a month at the Refinery. The refinery is a quaint establishment with a cozy dinning hall with just enough room to accommodate a small crowd. The tables are arranged in a banquet style and the food is arranged in a buffet.
For the month of October, the dinner theme was Oktoberfest. The food was superb. The menu was filled with German themed classics; Potato beer soup, Bratwurst, Hanchen-schnitzel (Chicken Schnitzel), Roasted brussels sprouts, German potato salad, Braised cabbage with salted pork, Onion tarts, Spatzle, Sauerbraten, and a plethora of German Desserts. There was no shortage of fine dining options, and for those of us with little to no impulse control, it was a paradise.
The only thing lacking from the Oktoberfest experience, was the assortment of German beer. Regrettably the Rig does not have a liquor license, so for those going to the dinners hosted by the Culinary Department, you sadly won’t be able to buy drinks. However, do not let this hamper you from going. You are permitted to bring you own drinks, but please remember that this is a public event with families. Keep all drinking classy and in moderation.
All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I encourage any and all with the time and an appetite to come and experience these events for themselves. The next banquet will be a Seafood theme occasion on the 21st of November. Perhaps I will see you there.
